four principles

four principles
an approach to medical ethics, championed by Tom Beauchamp and James F. Childress, that identifies four basic duties that a doctor has towards his or her patients: beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and respect for the patient's autonomy. Although the four principles are often used as a framework for decision making, there may be problems in deciding which principle should take priority.
